Guide: How to Clear Spotify Windows Store Version Cache

If you've experienced loads of lag in Spotify's Desktop App, it might be time to clear Spotify's Cache.

 

Doing this with the traditional non Store App is fairly easy. However, doing this with the Windows Store App is slightly more difficult.

 

1. Firstly, navigate to your AppData folder by typing %appdata% into search
2. Navigate to the "Packages" folder
3. Navigate to a folder within that called "SpotifyAB.SpotifyMusic_zpdnekdrzrea0"
4. Navigate to the "LocalCache" folder within that
5. Navigate to the "Spotify" folder within LocalCache
6. Navigate to the "Data" folder within the "Spotify" folder
7. Close Spotify if it's currently running
8. Select all folders within the "Data" folder and delete them.
9. Profit?

 

At some point in the future I might write a python script to automate this .

If it doesn't work, I reinstall the program, if it still doesn't work I reinstall Windows.

This is great.

 

The other solution is to not use Spotify. But we are free to make our own choices.

I do at work.. since I have to wait for approval from our Managed IT services provider for a normal software install, but Windows store bypasses that.. ;) most of the items would be approved, but sometimes the approval takes a while, especially during the Pandemic.
