do you really need a ups

um... so I know that a ups is really helpful but there is never any talk about them so I just wanted to clarify that i'm not going crazy and that there valuable but just not talked about 

also if they are could some please recommend a good ups for a 600w pc

I would only get it if you are doing crucial work on the PC. The thing won't last more than 5 minutes.

If you pulled your pc power plug right now what would you lose? If its not much don't worry about a ups. If your losing valuable documents or taking down a service that you need running their worth the money. Normally you just have enough time to save and shutdown, but they can be used as a waiting time for a generator to start up or with large batteries can last hours.

I have one but it's primary job is to protect my server I do have my pc's (2) connected and it's set to shut down gracefully as soon as there is an outage

Also UPS can cause more problems then they solve. Especially those cheap $30-100 ones. 

If you have very reliable power I wouldn't recommend one. More often then not the UPS dies and kill power to the computer.

Nobody "needs" a UPS, it's a matter of is it required for your type of work? I have a 1000W UPS and it provides stable and clean power to all 5 of my machines. Do I need it? No probably not as I have live backup software running on my NAS, however it's nice to have and in case of a power loss it will gracefully shut down all machines before I loose anything that I had not saved/backed up.

 

Don't buy a cheap one though.
