Changing memory speed, Can't boot?

So I accidentally bought a single stick of 8gb 1866 vengeance ram and never bothered to correct the setting in bios ( @ 1333 I believe ) before I installed windows, now when I go back to bios and try to change it the computer errors and automatically switches back. Unless I changed the wrong memory setting, i think it said d or v ram ( I can only make basic sense of the bios settings in mit ). 

 

Any work around for this, can I run 1866 on a single channel? Thanks

Oh, good question it's a Giga 970a UD3, it has enough slots for 32gb memory, I assume it does that coupled with the fact that it let me switch to 1866 ( was x 20 i believe ) in the bios, although it never took.

What CPU are you using?

 

Yes, DRAM = system memory (RAM).

For 1866MHz, you will need to adjust the memory timings according to the listed / advertised values...if your motherboard does not detect the "XMP" settings.

fx 8320 and I'm going to try again right now. It had a value multiplier I had to crank up to get it to 1866 and it wasn't automatically detected. I'm stumped.
