Hey All. I've been quite interested in the new Ryzen Apu's, particularly the offering of 4/8 cores in the 2400G. This summer I plan to build a simple 8tb NAS box for my apartment that will run a plex server on it. How do you all feel the 2400G will handle trans-coding the streams, when I anticipate a max of 2 users to ever be online, and most likely all 1080 content. From what I'm seeing, the passmark scores would indicate it as being pretty competent for this. Just wanted some second opinions.

Yes it is very competent at it, and thanks to the good IGpu you wont need to buy a gpu separately.

It will be great. I am using R3 1200 right now and it is also fine for only 2 transcode streams in 1080p

Fantastic! And ya buying a GPU was something I really didn't want to do for it, so the integrated will be awesome. Thanks for the reassurance!

Keep in mind that Plex transcodes using the CPU, not the iGPU.

However, the 2400G has 4c8t, if I recall, which should do nicely for a Plex Server.

Yup I'm aware. The iGPU is great since i dont have to buy a gpu separately, and the 4/8 cores are wicked deal for $170

Is the Vega iGPU not supported by the Plex hardware transcoding feature?

I don't use Plex but doesn't it do GPU transcoding now?

News to me - reading now.

Good question, so far the doc mentions QuickSync, which is an Intel iGPU feature.

So far it looks like the typical downsides to GPU transcoding: Faster, but you will probably get lower quality compared to CPU transcoding.

So reading through the document, looks like Plex Hardware acceleration is limited to Intel QuickSync only.
