Wifi speed on desktop(canada rogers)

Zeketo

Hey guys.

Just wondering is any of you guys able to get 200mb download on a 500mb or gigabit rogers internet plan.

I had a tp link n4800 wifi card which is not compatible with win10. It's extremely slow 30-40 down on a 500mb rogers internet plan.

I recently bought a $10 usb adapter and it gives me 150mb download.

But the thing is both are capable of getting at least 300mb download on 5Ghz.

My room is literally right next to the modem and my macbook is able to give me 200-300 download which seems crazy to me.

My desktop is high end and is having trouble to get pass 150mb download.

Even though it's rogers, I am pretty sure the line signal is fine when I test it. (consistent 500g down on ethernet, 200-300 on my phone)

I really want to get ethernet, but I don't think it's possible without digging any wholes.

If the rooms are that close, why not run a cable along the baseboard? If you can’t do that, try Powerline.

The fact you bought a cheap WiFi adapter. If you want decent WiFi you preferably need a PCI express model that is decently priced. As you get what you pay for. Also, WiFi is affected by many things, most of which are out of your control. All you can do is make sure your WiFi router does not operate on a channel that is loaded with other wireless routers. Besides that there is not much more you can do other than moving the router closer.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
