If you're using shadowplay, yep!

I am planning a budget build for a friend with an i5 3550 and a GTX 680 and he just asked me if it could handle occasional streaming and honestly I am not sure since I don't stream anyone have any idea if this is enough. Btw the total build will be around $280 for your info

If he wants to stream, I recommend you upgrade his GPU to something like a 750Ti or above and use the built-in Shadowplay feature but if he really wants to start streaming, he will need to use OBS or something of that sorts, which will require a bit more CPU and GPU. Just tell him to try it out and see how it goes.

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

He is just trying to do basic streaming and if I'm honest I don't think it will be a regular thing so as long as it's passable it's fine.

Yeah, definitely get a capture card, but maybe if you can, use a second PC for streaming it.

I love Small Form factor ITX rigs.

If he's doing it for fun and not for the money then streaming with Shadowplay would be okay. I'm not sure but I think that the GTX 660 is actually the last card to support it.

So a 680 with an i5 3550 would be adequate for now and maybe in the future stick an i7 3770 in there?
