Should I get SENNHEISER HD 598SR or Audio-Technica ATH-AD900x for gaming?

Jaok

I also listen to music and watch movies but I'm going to mainly use these headphones for first person  shooters.

Expensive audiophile headphones aren't worth it. Get some Status Audio OB-1s.

They're about $100 and audio wise they're on par with headphones 3x the price.

HD 598's are not exactly expensive. And they are fucking kickass. Now, I've never used the OB-1's, so I cannot comment on their quality, but to say that HD 598's aren't worth it, is frankly, laughable.

Seems decent, but definitely not as great as you make them out to be.

SHP9500. No real need for discussion, lol. I've got AKg 702 Anniversaries, have gamed on every 400 dollar entry from the big guys, and keep going back to these cheap units.

NinjaQuick is spot on. The SHP9500/s beat headphones that often cost twice as much. Their sound quality is superb and you can pick them up for about $50 on sale fairly regularly. Pair them with something like the V-Moda boompro mic and you have a great headset. If you want to spend even less and still have good sound, something like a pair of Koss KPH30is with a splitter for mic/headphone connection to your PC, would also do well and wouldn't cost you more than around $35. You don't need to spend much money to get really good sound.

I've always shied away from FPS... But, when I play Metro Redux... or The Witcher3...! If there's a lot of room noise, closed-back cans allow me to discern whatever the hell's rustling in the bushes.  Otherwise, I'd go with @dalekphalm suggestion... My 2 cents...

They are available in normal colors too.

You can curse on the internet. Adding an asterisk doesn't make that word anything other than shit.

Furthermore, I have the original 598's, and the colour scheme is very aesthetically pleasing.

But if you're boring and want black, as @JoeyDM mentioned, both the 598 SE and 598 SR come in "standard black".

And the build quality is going to be superior to that of the OB-1, at least according to the reviews I've read on it.
