Remember to check that it's actually running at the rated speed.  Be default it might run much slower, so check if you need to enable XMP, etc.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

It's a slow upgrade process, and I like my 4 cores

Eh, I guess that works.  What new CPU are you planning to get?

If this is your first PC and you really want delidded performance I'd honestly just recommend you buy one already delidded.

So I got it all set up, running at 3200mhz, and only issue I find is the longer start up that linus mentioned in his last video, the one about adding more ram. I'd assume it'd be mitigated once I get a faster cou though.

Yes, an SSD will shave about equal time off, but not from the RAM's boot time, just the OS boot time.

Well once I'm in it speeds back up, only question that leaves me with is if I use an m.2 or sata ssd

Get an M.2 (if your motherboard supports it, of course.)

So I finally got around to actually overclocking it. For some reason though, the first time I enabled xmp, it gave different values than the standard.

I first attempted to select the frequency closest to my rated speed, 3280mhz. It crashed. Then I started from something close to 2400mhz and slowly climbed up. Made it all the way up to 3280mhz where it crashed again.

I turned xmp off and selected manual instead. Immediately I was greeted with 3200mhz that my dominator platinum are rated for. However I was not allowed to change the CAS or voltage. I raised it up to 3333mhz and lowered the cas to 15-16-16-35 and raised the voltage to 1.5v.

Noticeable changes include getting to the home menu has speed up. It's actually faster than what it was before with my 8gb 2133mhz. I could not get it to 3466, as it would crash immediately, even before I lowered the CAS.

REMINDER, I'm running an i3-8100 with an asus z370 tuf plus gaming board
