Hi so I have made a VPN on my home server on windows server 2016 when I try and connect though local ip it says "A connection to the remote computer could not be established; you might need to change the network settings for this connection" I'm not sure what this error is. What I want is to connect to the VPN from College so I have access to things I want on my server, and plus have the other things that come with a VPN.

Anybody can correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding in order to do setup a VPN like that you need a server on both networks with appropriate ports forwarded. The link is established through the two servers.

Nope, you need a server and a client. The server being on home network, and the laptop being the client to the server.

Specs:

 Gaming PC: i5 3570, 16GB 1600MHz, GTX 780 3GB, Transcend 128GB, WD 500GB, Seagate 500GB, Thermaltake 600W Smart, S340 w/ RGB, Windows 10 Pro

 Server: Xeon E5 2650, 12GB 1600MHz ECC, 8400GS, WD 2TB + 1TB + 1TB, EVGA 500B 500W, Windows 10 Pro

 Laptop: Macbook Pro Retina 2013, i7 4558U, 8GB 1600MHz, Intel Iris Pro 1.5GB, Apple 256GB NVME, Mojave

 Internet: $70/month For 500/100, Actually get 525/102

Two servers? That’s not right. You’d have a server and a client.

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named
