Asus Monitor Brightness Issues

So I have this Asus monitor (Asus - VE228H 21.5" 1920x1080 Monitor) and I can't seem to change the brightness setting. The dedicated brightness button is not responding and the brightness option in the menu is grayed out. Any ideas?
