Hey, so i’m thinking of using a 650w thermaltake smart pro rgb psu.(if anyone has any suggestions for a different psu that’d be good but this is only $87CDN and is fully modular) the main question of this post though is that i’m gonna be using a gtx 1070 from msi which uses an 8 pin and 6 pin connector. i tried figuring it out but wasn’t 100% sure. Will my psu have the cables for this and 650w should be enough right.

Yea it will. It should come with 1 cable which splits off into two 6+2 heads

You can have gold PSU which is an utter garbage.

I know that.

I was talking about that specific PSU.

There is a Gold version wich is good.

There is a Bronze version wich is not good.

the gold would cost me $40 more is there any actual difference between them other than efficiency??? cause i don’t really care about the efficiency too much.

Yes, there is.

In short:
The Bronze Version is something you'd avoid because its shit.

The Gold Version is pretty good/decent. The only Problem I have with that unit is those darn connectors for PCIe and CPU wich are identical physial but not electrical. Besides that the Gold version is fine.

The difference:
The Gold one is independently regulated, the Bronze is not and also is beter in any way you can imagine.

So two options:

a) pay the premium for the Gold one.

b) get an independently regulated unit from another manufacturer or something different....

See the pinned list in this Forum.

But the bronze version of this unit is trash while the gold is good, that’s what Stefan is talking about.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Yea I know, he told me after :) I thought that he meant just any gold PSU to be automatically good.
