Need suggestions for upgrading my computer.

Go to solution Solved by Princess Luna,

It is up to how comfortable you are paying for the whole new platform considering the costs of memory being high and all, the i7 3770 still has life in it and would be sufficient pairing with the GTX 1060 however the i3 8100 is a bit superior processor already which would give you better performance while also give you a future upgrade path if you ever decide to upgrade your GPU.

If you want to make things cheap as possible the i7 3770 is a perfectly fine alternative however if you have a good money reserve and is willing to go further I'd recommend the i3 8100, you can wait till next month when the h310 chipset motherboards are finally released and go with it to save a bit more funds, you can still in the future throw an i7 8700 on it and have all the power you need for a higher end GPU.

Hello Folks,

I have a 3rd generation intel core i5 computer. Last night my processor core i5 2320 got burned. Now I'm looking forward to buy a new processor. Should I buy core i7 3770 or should I change the whole setup and buy a new core i3 8100 with the latest 8th gen motherboard.

My current specs:

motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK

Ram: 8gb ddr3 1333mhz

Power Supply: seasonic 650w 80 plus

Graphics card: Asus gtx 1060 6gb OC edition.

Case: Cooler master 590.

Yeah, Motherboard is the only concern here. I don't want to spend too much money on the motherboard because I'm not an overlock enthusiast. Right now there is only Z series of motherboards are available in my region. I just want to play all the latest titles on 60fps with high settings. My old classic core i5 2320 were doing just fine for me in gaming. I was getting around 60fps on all 2017 titles. Which CPU would be faster pairing with the gtx 1060 Core i3 8100 or Core i7 3770?

The i3 8100 would be faster because games still likes faster threads than too many threads, therefore the 4threads only i3 8100 with its latest IPC (Instructions per clock) and higher frequencies would outperform the i7 3770 in most games with exceptions being those that can well utilize all 8 threads.

The i7 does gives you more multi-tasking headroom as it has more threads can run more applications at once at the cost of it being "slower".
