So actually this is for my little brother who is less PC savvy. I built the system he uses which is a Xeon E5-1650 6-core (basically same as i7-3930k) overclocked to a pretty safe 4ghz cooled by the EK Fluid Gaming A240 water cooling kit, has a Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming 980ti, and 16gb Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 1600 with an EVGA x79 SLI motherboard. He can be playing PUBG for a few minutes, or a few hours, but eventually this happens. What looks like a distorted BSOD but you can still sorta see the game in the bottom if you look closely, but the entire PC is locked up and a hard reboot is necessary to get back up and running. I've had him do clean driver re-installs, check for windows updates, re-install the game, verify the game files, etc. Nothing seems to help at the moment. Not using MSI afterburner at all (just the Gigabyte OC Genie software). No other game does this and he plays RB6: Siege, Overwatch, Titanfall 2, Battlerite, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and Paladins regularly. I'm not sure how to further advise him, anyone else have gone through anything like this or have any suggestions?

looks like memory corruption, though i really don't know. I've experienced this myself, and a reboot solved it. the weirdness continued through into the system os. came back though.

as in VRAM? Weird that it never did this with PUBG until like...the last few weeks to a month though. And everything else works perfectly fine still.

the only thing i can say is to keep and eye on it and if it keeps happening, send the card back to Gigabyte for RMA. keep the screen caps so that they can see what's happening.

or better yet, ask them. maybe they'll have a snappy answer for you!

It was bought second-hand so im not entirely sure they will be all that helpful. I can try seeing that they'll say still, who knows.

Same exact problem when playing games. I can't believe exact same thing. I've been on toms hardware for an hour searching. xD

Wow it's it weird. Research I did I heard countless things. from to low voltage on an OC CPU. Meaning runs stable even during overnight stress (which I did a few nights ago)

To a distorted BSOD because of ingame graphics messing up windows crash report. When I look at my crash report program after the BSOD like this I see this one alot WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR hal.dll & IQRL NOT EQUAL OR LESS. IQRL not as frequent.

I just ran ccleaner on my registry files cause also heard a virus could be messing with those and causing this problem. So increasing the Vcore didn't help at all, also causing my benchmarks to go down which is just getting more frustrated.

My i7 7700k is absolutely stable at 1.285 @ 5.0GHz solid. Ran it for 24 hours stressing through prime95, aida 64 extreme, intel burn test and running cinebench countless times.

Even stressed the gpu through valley and heaven even furmark and no crash. It is a used gpu though msi gtx 970. I'm just about to throw this PC through my window. Mind you this is a fresh custom gaming build as of July 2017. Also fresh windows installation as of now 3 weeks ago trying to fix. Apparently doing something wrong. Right?

If any fix as been found please let me know.

here the photos and main causes according to "whocrashed" software.

Maybe this should be new thread?

All games I play right now. Rise of the tomb raider, PUBG, Call of duty WWII, and battlefield 4 & 1.

Yeah I was shocked after deleting all partitions from my OS and reinstall. I'm at a loss.

Thing is I just built my friends system with the new 8700K oc to 5.0 with little effort this month. Everything runs completely fine never BSOD no problems.

Motherboard in possible KIA?

Did you try just running everything at stock just to see? save your OC profile in BIOS, then reset to defaults and run GPU at stock?

GPU I never tried to OC , as I don't understand how to exactly no matter the research. Yes, I set default and tried. Ran for like a game then next round started and full BSOD with actually sad face and code like windows actually does. So afterwards installed windows. Now back at it, and honestly I'm very experienced in CPU overclocking as it was my job for few months. Like why leave free performance go to waste. Again though only CPU, ram will never boot for me, and gpu just confusing me with the voltage and memory clocks. Maybe I should do another reinstall and reformat my drive swipe SSD's around use my pro so OS.

Awesome. Thanks let me know. Oh and I heard virtualization may conflict with an OC cpu. If you know about that being true or not. I'd appreciate that information.

I turned his CPU OC off and put everything back to the BIOS optimized defaults, including the ram now running on "auto" at 1333mhz. He hasn't been home to test but i guess we'll see soon.

Yeah I never use realbench I was using cinebench test and the others in real world hour render. Guess realbench is a "make damn sure" software. xD

Hope I can go decently low with the Vcore I did delid it for heat just in case. Hope this will fix it. Also hope your brothers is fixed too, any updates?

I do have the same problem, but it doesn't happen when i'm playing games, so far it happened when i was watching a video and using discord, i've tested every single component and everything is good, the OS is a fresh install from early November 2017, so i don't know if it is just a coincidence but hopefully we can fix this problem

I did another clean install of windows last night. Installed all my programs except Kaspersky. I don't know about that anti-virus...fixed my OC turn out I was only 0.025 low. Played some WWII for about 2 hours and no crash. I will try battlefield 1 again after work. Which is where I crashed almost instant previously.

EDIT: Well, apparently 1.305 is not stable while at work ran asus realbench test again and same BSOD. Kernal Mode Trap. Which is not enough voltage.

So my brother played WoW and streamed for a few 4 hours chunks of time with zero issues...so theres that.

Luckily 1440p is a little less CPU dependent. We'll see if he tries a few other games if issues still persist.

Yeah mine was not enough voltage to CPU after a bios update for some reason. Fixed I think had tp u[ voltage I'm at 1.307. Played battlefield 1 and pubg and no crashes as of now. Could've been entire problem. Weird how it became unstable after that.
