SSD Over Provisioning

Hi guys. This a build I use for gaming and everyday use. For the SSD, I've heard that you should be leaving 10% for over-provisioning, which I did through the Samsung Magician. Is that good enough, and should I leave additional space free space aside from the over-provisioning space?

You shouldn't need more than that it's mainly to help ensure the drive still retains a certain amount of performance once you start loading it up with data.

Just to add to that at around 60% full usually is when most drives will see a slightly drop in performance so more over provisioning can help with that.

Yup, saw that video too.

Damn, I only have like 88GB free out of the "250GB" total. By how much do you think I should have the over-provisioning space?

Well first of all, you don't need to install the magician software to use the SSD.

It's just unnecessary and adds crap like RAPID.

 

Second, just never fill it up more than 90% and you'll be fine.

No need for overprovisioning or anything like that.

the default is good for most people I've run my SSD somewhat hard over the years and left it at 90% full before I don't see huge performance dips.
