Planning on upgrading GPU soon

Hi. I'm planning on upgrading my GPU. I have 2 GTX 970s in SLI at the moment and a 1080p 144hz monitor but when I play games like GTA V for example, I'm getting over 100fps a lot of the time however the PC is really loud and hot. I was thinking 1070 or 1080 for a while and now I've seen that the 1070 TI is out. They all seem to have gone up in price for whatever reason I noticed. I was thinking of getting a 1080 TI since I have a 4K TV but that's a crazy price IMO. I basically want a single GPU that can do well at 144hz 1080p and likely still get a playable framerate on my 4K TV. I'd settle for 30 FPS in 4K for single player games if I have to since I play the xbox one x a lot anyway but might as well take advantage of having 144hz.

 

What GPU would you guys recommend or should I wait it out and even see what the vega56 is like? Also is there any good fans that have decent CFM and LEDs or even just good CFM and I can buy and LED strip for the case I suppose to save some cash if that's a cheaper combination?

I noticed it's very hard to get them they seem to be out of stock everywhere. I can hold out for now and sell on the GTX 970's when I'm buying the new one. I could get a second hand GTX 980 TI but it's probably not worth my while. Suppose patience is key.

It's like trying to get a NES classic except I actually have one of them lol.

You should keep your current setup until Volta/Ampere release and try to grab one of the launch cards on msrp.

Will do. It's still working fine for the games that do support SLI. Still isn't even the worst on single GPU either for some, but there's a lot of poorly optimized games nowadays that take advantage of people having powerful computers. Mafia 3 is one example. Had to settle for 30FPS last time I tried it as it's non SLI and badly optimized. GTA V seems to work pretty well tbh.

If you can find a used 980Ti, that would be a really good choice.

I had the Maxwell TITAN X and when I tried out the 1080 Ti the jump was indeed bigger than I expected... or originally wished to admit.

Not really in his case he'll lose performance where sli works to add not all that much when you have only 1 card... it is exchange six for half a dozen, aside the hassle.

Just had a look there and they want more for second hand 1070 and 1080 cards than new ones were and when people are calling them on the price they're saying go find one for less then. They want like €480 ($586.76) for a 1070 and €500 ($611.21) for a 1080. These are second hand cards for that kind of money it's madness. I'll definitely hold out fotr now and just get better fans so my 970s don't suffocate.

So I ran a test there and just opened watch dogs and left it to run for a couple of minutes. HWmonitor reports both GPU hit 80C and that's only after 5 minutes or less. I would of expected the top GPU to be hotter but not both of them. I'll try it again tomorrow with the other fans I have and see if it makes any difference at all.
