a random complaint rant...

soo .. i left on an adventure the other day in search of a displayport cable, and it reminded me why i never go to stores ..

i went to 5 different stores to no avail, each and every one of them had about 20-30 kinds of hdmi cables but not a single displayport cable .. only one of them had minidisplayport, 4 out of 5 people i asked didn't even know what it was .. one asked is that a gaming thing? then went on a rant about how the different kinds of cables are all bussiness and nothing else.

the one that really pissed me off .. i asked a guy, he didn't know what it was .. obviously, so he directed me to the so called "computer department", i tell the "tech" guy that im searching for a displayport cable, he replies oh! is that for a ipad or a macbook? to which i reply .. uhhhhm? displayport is displayport so that shouldn't really matter?

(i should have told him, look at me ... do i look like a mac user?)

anyways .. soon he realised that they didn't have it so he told me to find a dedicated apple store as they have more apple related products there ....  to which i went .. lol sure .. and continued my quest.

now, at the last store, i saw the guy behind the counter scrambling through a box full of so dimm laptop ram, trying to help a older gentleman, i thought this is it! this is my savior! i ask him the question i have asked 5 times earlier, immediately after i hear some random guy behind the wall yelling "NORMAL DISPLAYPORT?" to which i reply "yes!"  he obviously yells back "YEAH WE DON'T HAVE THAT!"

i do realise displayport isn't the most common thing, but come on ... this is why i don't bother going to stores, or just generally speaking with those kind of people, i ended up returning home in defeat, i had wasted many resources but returned empty handed with a re awakened frustration that knows no end.

oh man just shop online

What is display port? I don't understand

i often find that the normal average person, or even random helper at the store knows more than the dedicated "tech" or "pc" people they hire ...

in some cases .. not always.

I once went to a shop to buy a DVI cable cause I couldn't find the one I had before(I still haven't found it).I asked,normaly :

"Do you guys have a DVI cable?"

"Whaa-?What does it look like?"

"...It looks like a VGA cable, just a little different."

"A what?Ah,let me get you someone that might know something about all of this stuff you're asking for."

I was introduced to another guy,and I asked the same question again.

"Oooh,a DVI cable.Yes,we have some of those"

He told me to follow him and showed me some VGA cables.

"But this ain't DVI,this is VGA."

"Well,you're right.We don't have any DVI cables,just VGA."

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I don't know."

And that's why I'm still using VGA.

An elderly gentleman went to PC world and they told him that if he bought this set top box, his old CRT TV would be converted into a 1080p TV! Luckily the guy wen to buy a printer and so did not buy the box. But seriously, stores should just hire from forums like these and that way they get knowledgeable people and not just some guy who can change the colour of the squares in excel.

RadioShack but itll cost you an arm and a leg being that its only available in super gold plated. So probably just under $10 or so.
