PSU for SLI GTX 1080ti's

SmartenUp

Two Identical Machines - Both need a new PSU

CPU: 6700K @ 4.3GHz

GPU: EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 GAMING (2 in SLI)

SSD: 4 x 2TB

I used the calculator and I only got 800 Watt recommendation. That seems low, no?

Can anyone recommend 2 or 3 PSU's too choose from?

800W is too high. Realistically, 650-750W should be enough. Overclocked, 750W.

The RMx, Prime Titanium, P2, T2 and HX are some good units

:)

Okay Thanks!

For the time being, I do have the crap Tier 7 Thermaltake - TR2 (600 Watt)

If I only plug in a single 1080ti, this would work right?

If it kills as 1080 Ti, you have another one, so sure. If you want to be sure you can actually get to use both at the same time, don't

Haha, the idea is to keep them all alive :)

I'll let them sit in their boxes until the PSU ships.

Purchased two of these: EVGA SuperNPVA 1000 G3, 80 Plus Gold 1000W

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01LZ3SFB3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Case closed. Thank You!

Quite a loud PSU, though. 1700RPM under a 500W load. Why did you get such high wattage PSUs?

They will be really good electrically, though, and should last for a long while. They're good PSUs, that's not the issue. It just annoys me a bit that the G3 is a bit loud. 40dBA isn't terrible, though.

I figured the 850 variant is just as loud.

I'll be able to future proof my PSU's.

I'm also able to get the 1000 watt for just 12$ more each - as the 850 watt, off amazon right now.

Now you got my all worried that they will be too loud. Didn't even think about that.

Okay back to the drawing board.

Okay back to the drawing board.

Cybenetics shows about 40dBA at a realistic load. Should be fine, probably.

That was the reason I didn't recommend the G3 :P

Okay, so I checked your recommendations and landed on these:

RM850x

https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-RM850x-Modular-Certified-Warranty/dp/B015YEI8JG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1515786349&sr=8-3&keywords=rmx+psu

HX850i

https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-HX850i-Performance-Supply-CP-9020073-NA/dp/B00M2UIXX2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1515786518&sr=1-1&keywords=hx850i

HX1000i

https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-HX1000i-Performance-Supply-CP-9020074-NA/dp/B00M2UINT6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1515785851&sr=1-1&keywords=HX1000i

As far as I can tell, the HX is better than the RM since it's plat vs gold rating... and for only 25$ more, it would be stupid not to get the 1000 over the 850... right?

The RMx is already plenty good, and should be roughly as quiet as the HX/HXi. There's not really much reason to get the HX. If the RMi is available for ~$5-10 more than the RMx, then that's a good option too. Allows for monitoring of the PSU, and I think allows for control of the fan.

Anything under 30dBA under load should realistically be as quiet as you need. Most higher end PSUs have a 0RPM mode for when you're idling.

Cybenetics' testing, if you want numbers.

Two 1080Tis with hefty OC will consume about 350W apiece, or 700W total. With a 6700K at basically stock voltage (why 4.3 GHz exactly?) you're probably at about 800W under load, just a bit under perhaps.

I've said before that I'd personally get no less than an 850W for two 1080Tis in SLI and I'd say that's true here too. If you had an 1800X or 8700K or some other more power hungry CPU I'd recommend a 1000W.

Been running the 1000w variant for almost 5 years now. No such thing as too much, unless its inefficient.

Id only get higher tier corsair as I don't like their lower and mid range models. Evga stuff if always nice looking and good quality.

Running 2 1080ti's on 750watt psu's but not for gaming so they aren't under much load.
