I usually suggest >400grit, or to use scotchbrite pads to scuff up the surfaces.

I use 400grit as a final sand before painting MDF and ABS plastic. I'd recommend going a bit higher for metal and using a proper primer as otherwise paint can peel very easily. Automotive grade clear coat is also a very good idea. I have had it on RC car hoods and it held up very well. Scotch brite pads are also a good option for sanding.

 

Remember, prior planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance, paint doesn't hide things.

Sync RGB fans with motherboard RGB header.
