Phanteks fan hub

TL;DR of this one is this: do you still get PWM control over fans using this hub right here if you plug it into the SATA power header? Thinking about buying one to control two power hungry fans that will not run off a single header on my motherboard, as well as maybe a few others.

I have a silverstone hub that uses SATA power, and the answer for mine is yes, I'd imagine the Phanteks is the same.  It uses the SATA power for extra 12v, but uses the PWM lines to control the actual speed.

 

 

Edit: I just looked at your link, and the hub seems to only have 3 pin headers for output.  So the answer is "maybe".  It depends on your motherboard's (or the hub's) ability to control speed of a 3 pin fan.

If you're interested, this is the Silverstone unit I use, which can control up to 8 4-pin PWM fans from one motherboard header + SATA power.

From what I remember of mine, it allowed you to use either PWM or just normal 3-pin control (I managed to kill it from too low of voltage running off a single motherboard header).

 

But as long as it works like you'd think it would (who knows how things actually work when it comes to tech lmao), I guess I'll go ahead and get one then crack it open and stuff it where my old one used to be since it's the same PCB from what I can recall.

Yes, you get PWM fan control, but theyre controlled through the normal Voltage, so any LED fans that you would use would flicker, get dim or not work at all in very low RPM modes. I've used it previously in my Blue Build, fortunately I kept the fan speeds up high enough where this wasnt an issue.

Not a problem for me anyways then since I won't be using LED fans. ?

 

I do appreciate the clarification though, it's been so long since I still had mine that I had forgotten just how it controlled them.
