I'm looking for a new mouse.

I like heavier mice. Something with an aluminum base, and preferably other metal elements. I also like soft touch coatings, as long as they're not quick to wear (I'm looking at you Logitech).

I'd also prefer that it have some side buttons, at the very least back and forward, preferably more.

Good switches are an absolute must. I hate mushy mouse buttons.

I know of:

  • Thermaltake Level10 M
Already own one, love it, but I'd rather try something new
  • Corsair M65
Used before, it was pretty good, but I'd rather try something new
  • G.Skill KM780

Are there any mice that meet my requirements that I'm missing?

G502?

*edit*

or nah, even with all the weights its not that heavy

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I use and really like the Logitech G600. It is heavy, big, rgb, and you can have about 72 macros. It has 12 buttons on the side and the mouse has internal memory. It is plastic but it doesn't feel cheap

I have to second the G600.

I've beat the snot out of mine for a few years now and have been thoroughly impressed with everything about it- it's even pretty easy to take apart should you spill your drink on it for... reasons.

The buttons are responsive and precise, I've never wondered if I truly clicked something or not with that, and the 12 buttons under my thumb make gaming (and any other activities you can be arsed to set up macros for) a breeze. The real difference for me is that third main button under my ring finger- having a button with the functionality of Shift, Ctrl, or Fn under an otherwise unused finger  gives me a massive boost in productivity.

I like the weight of it a lot. While I've used heavier mice, this one is noticeably solid and too dense to skitter away like super cheap mice tend to.

The cable is extra long and covered in a durable braid that's stood up to both my activities and an occasional cat-assault.

The software is easy to use, but in all honestly I've only ever messed with it and Razer's stuff so... I'm far from an expert there.

It's plastic but doesn't feel cheap and the finish looks and feels like it did when I got it in the first place.

Hope this helps!

I cant think of heavy mice except G502 with its added weight system that if u use all of it i will made the mouse around 165grams.

U might want to look at mad catz rat series if u want heavy mice with aluminium build but i am not fan of the aesthetic.

Haha yeah, I mean it's definitely close, only 20g off the mouse I use now.

I've been tempted tbh. I can get one about half price.

Thanks! I'll take a gander.

@WhisperingKnickers @Pro_squirrel!

The G600 looks nice, but I think my thumbs are too fat to use the buttons without hitting the wrong one accidentally :P

It's also a super light mouse compared to what I'm using now.

I was tempted to try that style though. The Corsair Scimitar Pro is a bit heavier...but the thumbs are still fat.

Nope the Leadr is based on wired version but use superior PMW3361 sensor which just a custom PMW3360(the optical ever made) while the wired version use laser A9800 sensor which is known for having inconsistent acceleration.

A good sensor is a sensor that is capable on tracking accurately and precise without any software tricks or acceleration that is referred as perfect control speed measured in IPS,A good sensor also have to be able to track a very fast/very slow movement without getting jittery or spin out that is usually referred as malfunction speed which is the maximum speed of a sensor when tracking before it loses track measured in G FORCE.

Optical sensor has higher perfect control and malfunction speed whereas laser has much lower ips and G force.

Not only that laser sensor often struggle when tracking on a mousepad because of the laser implementation it gives us unnecessary data cause it track deeper than optical.

Laser sensor also always had an inconsistent acceleration issues making it inaccurate and not only that they are also more expensive to produce.

They also has a high lift off distance which are hated by FPS player because when they are trying to reposition the mouse it will mess up with their aim, thankfuly it can be adjusted but some of them cannot.

Another issues of laser sensor is that they cannot track a very slow movement accurately meaning they wont respond to a very slow movement or they will jitter.

Roccat nyth use laser sensor similar to razer Mamba but slightly more inferior.

Its a MOBA/MMO/RTS mice so a sensor is not a big deal.

MOBA/MMO/RTS player will prioritize more on shape, buttons and ergonomic rather than sensor unlike FPS player because FPS player will move their mouse super fast or use awkward tilt and slam technique to do flick shot and for that they need a good sensor.

IDK i dislike alienware soo..

There are, absolutely. The Rival has a PMW 3360 which is as good as they get nowadays. It and 3366 are the top dogs atm. They are the same sensors after all.

It doesn't have the weight I want, but it's heavier than the Nyth and cheaper as well.

There are 3 most common optical sensor.

PMW3310 is a budget oriented sensor,PMW3330 is a mid ranger sensor and PMW3360 is the high end optical sensor.

As far as the sensor perform PMW3360 is the best sensor in the world it also imo very overkill thats why even though sensor like PMW3310/PMW3330 is more inferior they are still around.

It depends on what kind of player u are as i said FPS player will prioritize more on sensor and MOBA/MMO/RTS will prioritize more on Button, shape and ergonomic.

PMW3360 are often customized and used by gaming companies such as logitech with PMW3366,corsair PMW3367,Roccat PMW3361 or Steeelseries with their TrueMove3 sensor.

They are not the same sensor as 3360 anymore, they often boost their IPS and G FORCE although the difference is subtle.

Thats why as long a mice has a good sensor like i mentioned above and u didnt use tilt slam technique, dont bother with the sensor and prioritize more on shape, button and features.

Ahhh I see! The new TruMove3+ looks interesting too, with it's two sensors.

My mouse never leaves the surface, so I think I'll be good even with the most basic one :) Thanks!

Its just stupid gimmick that gives u no advantages in game.

Anything under 1DVD wont gives u a noticable movement when u pick the mouse.
