ANYTHING I can do about comcast?

It is gigabit and megabit

 

Hello, recently I upgraded to Comcast's gig speed internet plan and all I have gotten is utter crap. Starting off -

 

(I have a computer that can handle gig speed, and Comcast's gateway that SAYS it can handle 2 gig speeds. I do have other devices on the network, but they SHOULD NOT be using over 750 mb/s)

 

1. I am getting less than 250 mb/s connected straight from my computer to the modem (Tried with multiple ethernet cat6/cat5e cables rated at 1 gig speeds)

2. I am getting horrid rubberbanding in games like CS:GO

3. I have already had their tech come out and say everything was fine, which it clearly isn't.

 

Is there ANYTHING I can do about this. I want gig speed, but Comcast is my only option in my area. I am tired of Comcast charging us $30 extra/month for nothing.

Because 250MBps = 2Gbps.

There's a difference between a gigabyte and a gigabit. Gigabit internet, which is what everyone advertises, is actually 125 megabytes per second. They're delivering quite a ways above gigabit for you.

Comcast's offer 1 GIGABIT with Docsis 3.1 and 2 GIGABIT with Fiber. They dont over 1024 Megabytes per second. I dont think any one does. Im guessing you have the Docsis 3.1 service that is offered over Coax? If so, you speeds should be in the 900 Mbps range on download and 35 Mbps range on upload. The reason you dont get the full 1 Gbps is due to over head and the fact, they just started pushing this service, they still have a lot of work to do. Because technically Docsis 3.1 can do 10 Gbps down and 2 Gbps up according to the spec released by cable labs.

Ok, that is good to know. All I know is that on speedtest.net I am getting worse speeds than what I am getting after I upgraded my internet to what they said was 4x the speed. Is there anything I can do about the constant rubberbanding?

What Comcast modem/router do you have? Have you tried rebooting the modem?

Comcast measures in Mb (megabits) not MB (megabytes).

Are you sure the server you are testing to can handle a 1Gbps test?

 

also all your ports are 1Gbps so you sould only see max of 1Gbps or 120 MBps per device.

 

 

Can you show us a picture of the test or something?

 

Also please write the speeds correctly with little b for bit and big B for byte.
