$600-700 CAD Workstation

Hi all,I planning on converting my 7 yr desktop pc into a workstation.

My budget is around 45,000 INR (~$650)

Current specs:

Asus P5G41T M LX3 Motherboard

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5700

500 GB HDD

4+4 GB DDR3 Kingston ValueRAM

Generic 450W PSU

Windows 10 Home (Purchased)

Generic Keyboard & Mouse (Logitech)

Viewsonic VA1931 wma Monitor

Mid Tower Case

Requirements

I mostly work with CATIA v6 and Ansys 15 and rendering with keyshot.

The system must be able to open, edit and render CATIA assemblies consisting of a max 20 parts smoothly (Nothing too complex like a jet engine. Some small BIW parts,Gear Box,etc)

I would also like to game occasionally (GTA 5, Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs)

Processor

CAD applications mostly requires powerful single core performance. So i5 or equally powerful AMD variant is necessary

I am also planning on overclocking down the line.

Graphics

I am looking at professional graphic cards like Firepro W2100 or Quadro K620.

I also want to play games occasionally so if a 1050 Ti or 1060 can get the job done then its ok for me.

Choose the rest of the parts on what you think might the best setup.

Please keep it under budget.

Regards

Edit: I am new to this. So I forgot to add my location.

I am from India.

Thanks for the fast reply.

i3 performance is little sluggish on CATIA and ANSYS. I don't know about the 7th gen though

And I also forgot to mention my location. But its not a problem. Since I need a basic idea and I'll work from there.

I made some small changes.

Will this make the cut?

Is the cpu cooler really necessary?.

The dell workstations in my office run with fans that looks similar to the intel stock cooler.

Also can a used 750 Ti run the games I have mentioned.

Your build is on the bottom?

  • Don't get the 7600k. You're investing into old tech. The i3 isn't that far behind this chip. The 8400 is a much better choice.
  • The 212 EVO isn't that great of a cooler. Try and get the CryOrig H7 if possible.
  • I'd try and get an SSD.
  • If you plan on overclocking, yes, a cooler is necessary. The Intel one only handles stock loads, and generally only well on a lower wattage CPU.

Welcome to the forum :)

Also, when asking for build advice, don't bother using currencies that aren't your own. You'll get builds based on pricing in those regions, which honestly is irrelevant to you.

Yes.

Ok. I initially thought of getting 8400. The performance b/w them are pretty negligible based on this link

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-coffee-lake-core-i5-8400-cpu,5281-8.html

But the z370 motherboards are way too costly.

The cryorig cooler is not available in my country and newegg/amazon shipping is ~$60

Maybe I'll get SSD down the line

How are things on the AMD side?

They're ok, you just need decent, fast RAM and an OC to get the most out of them.

Keyshot does cpu rendering. Consider a Ryzen 5 6-core cpu instead of an Intel cpu.

If you can wait a bit, Intel should be introducing lower cost 3xx chipsets sometime this quarter. This will mean more reasonable cost motherboards.

If you want to game, a lowend Quadro or Firepro card is not going to do the job.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
