Is it a good time to buy a new laptop?

Arafat10

So I was thinking of buying a new gaming laptop. I just started going to college so I'm gonna need a powerful laptop but should I wait for the new 8th gen laptops to come out or just buy one now? I will be majoring in computer science but I won't be needing a new device right now so... I'm a bit confused. ?

I would say maybe. You would have missed all the Black Friday and Christmas deals at this point, but there still might be some close-out sales. It depends on the laptop and who you are buying it from.

I would go 8th for sure because it is almost double the performance of 7th and still maintains the same battery life

There are also New Year's sales to look out for

Since computer science is just a math degree all you really need is a calculator and some paper. Just wait until you really need one and see whats the best at that time. I would suggest a new laptop if you want it to last the entire degree. All it really needs to do is run vms and support Linux

If you can wait, wait until 8th gen 6 core HQ chips to come out (Q1 2018). No need to wait for new GPU.

There is currently no benefit from going to 8th gen, any "performance" gain you may get would not be noticeable.
