Laptop Poll

I'm getting a laptop for uni and I'm looking at 2 different laptops. The HP Pavilion 14 and the Dell Inspiron 13 5000.

 

I get a 10% off these laptops so the HP is £450 and the Dell is £495. My main issue is I'm not a huge fan of the colour on the HP but it's more powerful. Do I bite the bullet for the power? HP or Dell?

The only thing the dell has as a benefit is a 1080p screen resolution versus 768p otherwise the HP is better all around, it has a usb type c port for anything you have that needs usb-c now or in the future, the i5 will stomp the i3 even in every day tasks. I would say the HP without a doubt.

that extra 1 inch in the display and the i5 and in cheaper price on the X360 makes it seems irresistible

IMO neither laptops are good, mediocre build quality. If you really want to choose, I would say HP Pavilion x360, more CPU performance, but the HD display is a terrible idea IMO. Dell lower end laptops tend to cheap out too much on other things like mediocre input devices, very short battery life etc. Make sure to check out online reviews on both laptops first. Also, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD aren't enough for solid Windows 10 experience.

I've ordered the HP and for £450 it's a good deal. This is a second PC so won't be doing much intensive work as I have my Ryzen 5 desktop for the heavy lifting. As far as the SSD is concerned, My desktop uses one the same size and the only things I keep off my SSD is music, videos, photos and games. I'm not going to have much of that on my laptop since when I'm connected to Uni wifi I can use Spotify or just use it on my phone. It's clearly not a gaming laptop and any photos or videos will be moved to USB storage or my Desktop if they ever end up on the laptop anyway. 

 

The way I see it, for an 8th gen i5, with over 10 hours battery life, and a touchscreen, I can live with slighly less RAM and a really cheap price.
