I am currently running an FX-4170, but my I am experiencing a CPU bottleneck in many games and applications.

Would it be worthwhile to upgrade to an fx-6300 for €25 or even to an FX-8100 for €70?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks in advance,

i would say saving up some money and get a Ryzen 3 or 5 if you can and get a B350 board

Just save your money for a Ryzen upgrade most likely.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Zambezi is shit, if you want to get a new CPU, get a Vishera.

BUT:
Only if you have a good Motherboard its worth thinking about.

If you have a 990FX, you might think about.

If you have a 50€ 970 or worse, you should replace the Board and CPU.

There are some really bad Boards for the FX series on the market - like Asrock 970 PRO and some other boards as well..

So only if you have a decent, higher end Board you might thinking about replacing just the CPU...

@Konrad Kwasniewski

Why should he get the Intel, when the Ryzen 5 is the better Chip??
Especially since only the Z370 is compatible with Coffee Lake...

I have a 990FXA-GD65 from MSI. I think it can handle all of AMD's FX cpu's.

Change the plaform. Get an i3 8100, 8GB of cheap DDR4 and the cheapest possible mobo, or get a ryzen 3 1200 and follow the same "cheap" pattern.

I'm just trying to squeeze a bit more life out of this rig, i'd rather just build a completely new rig instead of buying €400 worth of hardware.

In that case, it makes sense.

The 6300 is OKish, but can you find an FX83x0 series processor for a reasonable price?
Reasonable is like 75€ tops for an FX8300 and under 100€ for a FX8350.

Stay away from every FX CPU that has a one as the second number, it has to be a 3...

Well, besides from FX9590 and 9370, but those are probably not what you want and quite expensive...
