WD80EFAX-68LHPN0 - WD Red?

79wjd

I bought an 8tb easystore that I intend to pull the drive out of. Reds are typically EFZX, but I do believe this is a china variant with double the cache, can anyone confirm before I pull it out of the enclosure? (I will stress test it for a week or so before opening it up)

It's running firmware 83.H0A83, which I believe is also WD Red firmware.

Hi,

I personally don't have one on hand but I'm pretty sure that it's just a normal HDD in an enclosure as is most external HDDs.

I know it's a normal hdd, it's just if it's a WD Red or some other drive.

Terribly sorry, but I've been a bit out of the loop and haven't had time to keep up with hardware, so any answer I'd give you here would be mostly guesswork.

If you have EFZX it's only 128mb the others are likely 256mb. Your box country of origin near the barcode at the bottom should give some hope and info where it came from

Below is a highlighted post

To find out what drive you have install CrystalDiskInfo (also given in the Reddit above), I've ordered https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01LQQHKZY (Western Digital 6TB My Book), it'll be here tomorrow.

Canada has no Easystore :(

Personally I hope the second Reddit post i gave is correct for me, because if they put a blue in it I'm returning that green garbage, esp if its 5400 rpm (a true green).

If mines a Helium series the pricing up here in the north is wacked out, potentially being disappointed if it's just a Red :D

A little more digging provided this:

I saw that Reddit post and I already know I have an EFAX, I pulled that from CDI. I just wanted verification on my findings.

unless WD (and others) start doing something along the lines of claiming a different drive thru software (much like how the memory hack works for usb sticks), you're likely going to get a perfect answer.

If they did do such things it could cause them more issues for warranty reasons, and could devalue both HDD lines as well, or at the very least the more expensive one.

Fair point.

Well, now I just decide if I want to keep it.....I technically don't need the space yet, but $150 is pretty cheap (although it will surely hit that price again -- not necessarily with a red though).
