Which gpu for 2017?

Greetings fellow pc mates,

So my 960 (EVGA 960 SSC) is beginning to feel a bit dated and i'm looking for an upgrade.

The problem is i can't find a concrete answer on which is the best for my Ryzen 5 1400 (3.7 Ghz), a GTX 980 4gb ("founders") or a GTX 1060 3gb (PNY XLR8).

Would you guys help me out?

 

The prices i found these for are marked down, hence the large gap in GPU generation, on a budget of $250.

1060 3GB cause its more modern and it perform similar with the 980.

Although find the 6GB version if u can cause the 3Gb version has less cuda cores than the 6GB so not only it has the half of the vram but it also less powerful

Definitely not, 1060 3gb is weaker than 980 and the 6gb. The 6 is about equal but more VRAM and less power.

 

OP: I would wait for Volta, that 960 should still be fine for 1080p. Really the only card I think makes sense is a 1080ti now

You are right my bad i thought even though its weaker its still on par with the 980

But i'd still going with the 1060 3GB anyway because i am sure u know why.

It performs great now but 3gb is going to be a big problem in not too long... remember when the 2gb 960 was all you needed and now it can barely play some things because of VRAM? When the 780ti 3GB was more than enough? The 1060 3GB is better value NOW but it’s going to start struggling

3GB is still enough though if u know the know how to use the graphical settings.

There arent a lot of games that use more than 3GB even AAA like witcher 3 or RE7 and there's not much of a difference when using ULTRA quality nowadays unlike back in the days when Crysis was so demanding.

But yes u should blame Ngreedia for putting 3GB vram on their 1060.
