The problem is probably your cpu holding your performance back in games and not your motherboard. Pcie 2.0 is plenty already.

the CPU is very bad for gaming and cant keep up with a 1070. a 1050ti or 10603gb is as fast as you would really want to go with that CPU.

Right now all you can do is overclock the CPU as far as you can then when you get a chance change out the CPU to something newer even a Cheap Ryzen 1200 would give a nice bump but since you have a 1070 id go for a bit better then that.

the PCIe port is probably not the problem, but most likely your CPU is. I don't know what resolution you are gaming at but an FX 6300 isn't very good in combination with a 1070

i usually game at 1080 and go down. im not really into the 4k res and other crazy things lol

Which probably won't be far, especially with the stock cooler.

If you can get an older but still recent i5 and motherboard combo you should be good to go, it'll be cheaper if you can find something on the Z97 platform so you can reuse your DDR3 memory

If you can get an i5-4690K and pretty much any Z97 board, you'll be all set. Or even as far back as an i5-4670K on the Z87 platform would work.

8Gb DDR4 is in the region of 80 USD, 16Gb is anywhere above 120 USD.

Alternatively, you could jump to Skylake with a board that supports DDR3 memory

skylake supports ddr3 and ddr4? coz if 16gb of ddr4 is only like 120 then i could save for it easily

You also don't have to overclock just because you're on a platform that lets you. The 4690K is still a good CPU at stock speeds, but if you ever needed to overclock you can easily get to 4.0-4.4Ghz with a halfway decent air cooler.

Yes. It will be cheaper to reuse your current memory unless you decide to sell your CPU, mobo, and RAM to help offset the cost of your upgrade.

Sell your FX 6300 with the motherboard and memory and buy a Ryzen 3 with a B350 board and probably 8Gb DDR4 unless you game with a billion Chrome tabs in the background.

I've been doing that recently too, Ryzen stacks up to Intel pretty well though and a Ryzen 3 is likely going to outperform any older Intel CPU without an overclock that isn't some form of Core i7.

hmm idk lol u have good points that imma take into consideration. this was my ideal build https://gyazo.com/f17627bbd28f174e868f115f06a4a3d7. i have the gpu. im getting the ssd for free from sum1 ik and i wasnt going to get the k version simply because i dont really want to oc and i would need to buy aftermarket cooler wich a evo is only like 30$ and the build can wait till i get enough money for ram.

Get the K version, even if you're not going to overclock it. You'll see a benefit over the 6500 as the 6600K has higher base/boost speeds. The Hyper 212 Evo would be a good cooler.

Yeah that's why I didn't bother recommending that. Wish they'd just give a release date, I'd be more inclined to wait myself. Now I'm looking at used Ryzen options.

i have roughly 300$ to spend on a good cpu and mobo with ram. i was wondering if that would suffice

You're seeing a bottleneck on your CPU and PCIe slot, PCIe 3.0 runs at twice the speed of PCIe 2.0

Look into a used Ryzen or Intel CPU/RAM/Mobo combo

You should be able to get an Intel 8400 build for that, or an AMD Ryzen 1600x, both of which would be better.
