Someone had the same problem.

In MSConfig you have to uncheck "Numbers of Processors"

Did you try this?

As you can see, coretemp and hw only shows 4cores... Where are the 2 cores that are supposed to be there ? i5-8600k with asus rog z370-f

Yea check Task Manager if you haven't already, You can change the CPU graph to logical cores and you should see 12 there. if you only see 8 then update your UEFI.

The 8600K is a 6 core/6 thread CPU.

OP: Are all 6 cores enabled in the BIOS/UEFI?

Hmm...

Check the BIOS, it might have options to disable cores or some dumb "game mode" to disable cores to keep high clock speeds.

Be right back

No game mode there, and all cores active.

Are they all enabled in msconfig? (Boot/Advanced tab)

Strange, we're did you buy it off of? It might be some scam with a flashed BIOS thing... I dunno, I see a lot of graphics cards like that on eBay.

8600K is a CPU, not a GPU.

Look rarely it happens you get a defective CPU it just happens this probably was supposed to be an i3 8100 because only 4 cores works but on the separation line at Intel it end up along the i5's it happens... just contact the retailer you bought it from and return, Intel has a 5 years warranty for this kind of manufacturing failure.

But why does it then show 6cores on resource manager and in bios ?

CPU 0 CPU 1 CPU 2 CPU 3.... I only see 4 cores in resource manager :P

Download CPU-z if it says 4 cores 4 threads that's all you need to know, look you're ain't the first I saw this happen, like I said just RMA it, when you stressed it the frequency cap at 3.6ghz which is the maximum of the i3 8100 as I stated, it didn't turbo boost as it should've happened if this was a real i5 8600k.
