The Average Computer User is Uneducated Towards Computers

So I was on Facebook the other day, and I saw that CaptainSparklez (http://www.youtube.com/CaptainSparklez) posted a picture of his new rig. It is a complete beast of a machine. I was reading some of the comments people left on it, and I realized that most people don't know what they're talking about when it comes to computers. Here is the original picture that CaptainSparklez posted:

The Specs are:

Intel Core i7 3970X Extreme Edition

Corsair H60 Liquid CPU Cooler

Asus Sabertooth X79 Motherboard

32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 MHz RAM

2TB 7200RPM Hard Drive

512GB SSD

GeForce GTX Titan Graphics Card

Cooler Master HAF X Full Tower Case

Coolwer Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

Some Generic DVD/Blu-Ray Drive

Some of the comments are just ridiculous. For example:

w06bht3.png

"What is dat, Jordan?" (Jordan is CaptainSparklez's real name)

What is dat. How can someone not know what that is? Even my grandmother knows what a computer is. I looked above to see if he talked about the graphics card or something earlier, and he didn't. That is his only comment. *Sigh*

Next, someone asked "Wow! is that a GeForce?". Well, of course it's a GeForce graphics card. It says it on the side. Saying that it is a GeForce graphics card is like when someone asks you what type of dog you have, you say "Well, it's a dog."

Someone even said that he should have bought an Alienware and then upgraded it:

This one here really gets me. Someone said... Well, just take a look.

There is clearly some sort of cooling on that processor because of the tubes that go from it to the back of the case. I can't express my level of facepalming at this statement. This is the best I can do:

At least there are some people who recognize that there is some sort of cooling on the processor, and at least try to say what model it is:

tDxGiOd.png

I know most people won't know this, but the cooler used is a H60 because it is a slim radiator. The H80 and H80i both use thick rads.

I know I'm being somewhat rude towards these people, but they should at least try to learn something about what they're commenting on before they comment. That (to me, anyways) is why the YouTube comments are so unorganized. People just comment without thinking.

Sorry if this post pisses you off, I just wanted to express what I think about people who comment without thinking. I at least try to be somewhat sophisticated whenever I comment on something.

I think that them commenting is great in itself even though they barely know what they are talking about. That means they are "somewhat" interested, and if you ELI5 to them, maybe they will become more interested and join in the pc hardware community. The more the merrier.

I was expecting him to get two titans though, 1 isn't much of an upgrade from 2 590's. I suppose he can still do that in the future
It's probably barely an upgrade, but he doesn't have any more SLI driver issues and more VRAM.

Yeah I'm sure its probably better for things like minecraft and editing. Back when he built the dual 590 machine it was really the best thing around, was seriously expecting a little more this time, still a nice build though.

Wonder how many people have had this sort of conversation

A"can you fix my computer, it broken" B "what wrong with it ?"

A"it doesn't load" B "what type of computer ?" A "its a dell"

this is the point where you start thinking "oh no, not another one"

I didn't see any pictures or videos of the computer your talking about.. possible broken link?

However I did look at what type of content he uploads... it's 95% minecraft... I think I think that rig is a little extravagant for his needs lol Simply buying the best because he can.

It also appears his audience is rather young, which makes sense for them not knowing about computer hardware. They are watching someone else play minecraft after all. (I'm not knocking minecraft I play it from time to time, but lets play for it are generally geared towards a younger audience)

Did he build the computer himself or buy it pre-built?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.

I think it will be put to good use, he does a lot of 3d rendering in Maya etc. Tbh like I said its not as extravagant as it should be for his needs. Ever tried uploading a video everyday to Youtube? I am sure it gets boring rendering out all those files daily, I don't think people really appreciate the amount of effort that goes into it.

I think Minecraft only runs on a single GPU, whether you have multiple or not. Because of that, one beastly graphics card would be better. The Titan still would be awesome for editing in CUDA accelerated programs. I'm not sure what editing software he uses. Uploading a video every day would mean lots of rendering time.

He also does a lot of 3D animating in Maya, so having those extra cores and beefy GPU will really help him.

Also, extra VRAM would only really be useful if he has multiple high resolution monitors. I think he has two monitors, but they're probably 1080p, so it wouldn't help him all that much.

Probably because the average user does not care how a computer works, they just want to use it.
