Cannot get a delid tool for 6700k, should I use a razor blade instead?

I am unable to purchase a CPU delid tool and want to push my 6700k further. Is it advisable to use a razor blade to take the lid off? Thank you.

I'd advise the vice method over a razor.  Check Youtube.

I don't own a vice, so how safe would I be with the razor?

Not very safe.  I've done it a few times, and I ruined one of the CPU's.  It's really tough not to scratch the PCB.  Save up to import a delidding tool.

What about angling the razor blade upwards towards the top of the ihs?

It's still hard.  It's not like there is a half inch gap to start with.  Is it worth risking breaking your CPU?

I heard the Skylake (not X) pcb is too thin for the vice and it could snap and/or bend. Is this true?

Access to 3d printer? If so

Print Your own delid tool

This is what I did and it worked perfectly.  But most people don't have a 3d printer laying around.  :D

I'm curious if anyone has attempted with a plastic razor blade, they are not very durable but you can get a couple uses out of them.

I use these for a number of things computer related.  However they are not strong enough for this.

I guess the important question is why you can't purchase a delid tool.

I don't know about that.  It's definitely possible for it to snap, but I'm pretty sure people have used a vice on it before. Why can't you buy a delid tool?

They are not available on any retailer I trust.

You generally have to buy them online from the people who make them.   that is normal.  What country are you in?

I think I am going to try it tomorrow with the metal spludger from my ifixit toolkit - is this a good idea to use that?
