Is this normal...????

My cpu clocks are going up and down like crazy when in idle, at the end i started a stress test and it goes back to stable max core clock, my cpu is i5 6600k but its not overclocked right now.

 

i am also getting super random but extreme fps drops in games, last time was super bad so i did a few things:

formatted everything

reinstalled windows

updated windows

updated bios

 

 

i cant say it still happens since i am just running stress tests for now but atleast for now i just want to ask what is happening! and if its not normal how to stop it.

 

 

ps. forgot to say but i am keeping my temps in check they are max at 65 celcius, and thats under aida64 cpu+fpu stress test.

it is normal for a CPU to run at a lower frequency when it is not being stressed, it does that to save power and I guess also to have a longer lifespan. about the FPS drops, I don't think that is related, it could be anything.

Okay but its not just running at a lower frecuency, its hopping up and down like crazy (as seen in the screenshot) is this normal?

Fairly so. My 7700k at work, by comparison will have cores fluctuate with seeming random timing while the computer isnt doing anything demanding.

I see, then ill just assume its normal and if my fps drops keep happening ill blame it on some hardware issue since i dont think there is anything else software related that i can do, thanks for the info.
