Posted December 14, 2017 Hi, I would like to know if anyone has experience running a Virtual Box Mint or Ubuntu with an Intel Core i7Y Series CPU. This is probably not the usual question, since most people want to discuss the best performing cpu's out there. But I am trying to figure out if this lower watt cpu would be able to handle light tasks in a VM Linux. Basically a portable machine to do some work in linux on the go, without having to install a proper Linux on the Ultrabook.
 Posted December 14, 2017 I wouldn't run a VM on anything lower than 4 threads personally. Welcome to the forums! Posted December 14, 2017 If you're not doing anything intensive like trying to build the Linux kernel on it, then it shouldn't be a problem. I have a blog! And a list of guides I've posted
Posted December 14, 2017 I've run an Ubuntu MATE VM on my work laptop with a i5-7200u. It's not insanely fast but it works fine for messing around and the command prompt. Posted December 14, 2017 Author I also have used it on an i5 7th gen work laptop. It was ok. I was just wondering since the Y series have lower base clocks despite the higher turbo. So hypothecially speaking, would running a VM alone already need an adequate base clock or would a turbo handling peak loads if you actually do sth be sufficient.
