400 dollar build (no graphics card)

RyanCyan

I am going to sell an old Alienware for around 400 dollars. I have an additional 50 saved up. My budget is 450 for this build. I also would like to add a mid range graphics card in the future. Until I get the money for a graphics card, I will use the computer for basic photo/video rendering and casual internet browsing.

Any good build recommendations?

thanks

Well you can't go ryzen without a graphics card, but I still want to recommend it...if you wait for b360 boards then you could get a i5 8400

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

Ryzen doesn't have what's called an igpu, or an integrated graphics processor on the actual cpu, so there is no video output from the physical chip, hence the need for some sort of discreet graphics card (maybe you could borrow one or use a dirt cheap gt 610 or something)

Try using the PSU Tier List!

Yep, I am in no hurry. Could def get an extra 50 in. Thanks for the build, seems the i5 8400 is the best route in this price range.

Here is a good build with the i5-8400 which includes integrated graphics. You would only need an extra $26.00

EDIT:

Here is an alternative build of which has the i3-8100 if you want something cheaper to save some money. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HWp9hq

What's in the old alienware?

If you're only buying new parts 450$ is going to get you either a slow new machine or fast old machine.

I can't really afford a AAA PC gaming anymore, back in the day this pc could run it. I am just looking for a casual build until I can afford a decent graphics card and get back into gaming.

I still think the ryzen would be a better buy. Do you have some old pci-e video card lying around?

really? I looked it up and it seemed the i5 8500 would be better: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8400-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600/3939vs3919

to clarify, the 8400 is better at gaming.

if you do any sort of heavy multitasking / rendering the 1600 is better but not by much.

idk

From what i can see that alienware isn't that bad. Replacing it with a machine that is only going to be used for basic tasks.... isn't going to be much of a change.

I think if you literally just put more ram and an ssd and freshen up the os in the alienware you could have a decent basic tasks machine until you have more cash in the future.

essentially you can always move the ssd you buy over to the new build anyway

By better buy I meant cheaper, it's not that far behind the 8400. Just OC the ryzen.
