I agree I'd try to opt for 2x4gb sticks or higher speed in general. Otherwise looks pretty good. Also wow graphics cards are really expensive right now.

1060 should be fine for 1080p 60hz. I have a 1060 and easily get enough frames in pretty much every game I've tried.

He will be using it for mild 1080p gaming, and light sound design. Waddaya think???

All help appreciated!

Please don't listen to anyone telling you you should choose RAM with a faster speed. It will have no effect on gaming unless you have a 1070 or higher. I might go for a 500GB SSD and drop the 1TB HDD. If he is only doing mild 1080p gaming then game files shouldn't be too huge and he could always add one later. With that you could also save $30 or so, which I would use to get a higher quality PSU, maybe an EVGA SuperNova 550W (G2 or G3, whichever is cheaper at this time). They are usually $100, but are often on sale for between $60-$80. I might also suggest getting a cheaper case.

Their friend is doing more than just gaming.

But it's light sound design. With RAM prices as they are now, it probably isn't worth going over budget just to get faster RAM.

The difference between these two are 3 Canadian Buckeroos. Not too much to sacrifice for performance.

Thanks, thought you comment on ram in not necessarily true. Considering that ryzen relies heavily on ram speeds for preformance (RAM Speed = Infinity Fabric Speed) you can get better preformance on CPU-Heavy games with faster ram with ryzen.
