NiceHash is coming back soon!

Personally, I don't mine for coins very often because my computer/rig is complete trash, but I just wanted to say that NiceHash is recovering from attacks that many of you probably know, but for those who don't... NiceHash got attacked by some hackers and stole many users' credentials and BTCs, and now, NiceHash is working with local law enforcement to clean the mess up. 

 

Updated message on their website:

"The support we have received from our community during this crisis has been immense. We are truly moved by the tens of thousands of messages from our community of miners. We understand why everyone is upset, and we are truly sorry.

We want you to start earning money again as soon as possible. We are taking all the necessary steps to re-establish our systems with the highest possible levels of security to contain and defeat any possible future attacks.

Although we initially stopped the service for 24 hours, it turned out we require more time. Good news is that we are in the final stages of a rebuilding NiceHash into the most robust and secure marketplace for hashing power.

Your bitcoins were stolen and we are working with international law enforcement agencies to identify the attackers and recover the stolen funds. We understand it may take some time and we are working on a solution for all users that were affected.

If you have any information about the attack, please email us at tip@nicehash.com. We are giving BTC rewards for the best information received. You can also join our community page about the attack on reddit" (https://www.nicehash.com/).

So what happened to those missing bitcoin?

tl;dr - They're going to give them back, but of course, they'll have to check to see how much.

tl;dr - They're going to give them back, but of course, they'll have to check to see how much. 

Its going to be a huge pain in the BUTT recovering those bitcoin.

lol, i hope you seriously do not believe nicehash will give a penny back to anyone that lost, nor will they recover what was lost. thats IMHO very foolish thinking. 

 

If nicehash comes back online, i still would not recommend using it, even though my thoughts on them trying to 'repay' people back, will be to either eliminate their fee's, or lower them a substantial amount to overtime offset what was lost. After following what went down, their live facebook stream, i dont trust, nor believe a word that comes out of their mouths or off their social media reports.

Well... I understand where you're coming from, but hopefully, they will give back at least some of the bitcoins. But I totally agree with them overpricing their fees, It's so much better if you're mining with an alternate miner, instead of NiceHash. (but I do, really like their new interface ;))

Nicehash will not be getting those bitcoin back. It's simply too hard to trace.

I've been working on it and we have people from malwarebytes etc working on the project too.

Because it seems relevant, I just read on Krebs, a popular security blog, that the Chief Technical Officer of NiceHash was the former botmaster for the Mariposa botnet back in 2008. Makes you wonder if he stole the hashes.
