I am upgrading my pc and I have a low budget.

Pretty much for Christmas I am getting a 1070 or a 1070 ti and I have a sh!t cpu. I already have enough money to upgrade my cpu to an i5 7600k, and to change my case. But I am also upgrading to ddr4 from ddr3 and I don't know anything about trading in ram or what motherboard to buy, so I was wondering what could I do to trade in my old parts, and whether or not I have to scrape up more money. Here are My Pc specs so you guys can give me advice on what to trade in or what to do.

Pc Specs:

CPU: A 5th gen core i3 that has like 4.0 ghz but only 2 cores...

MotherBoard: Some old ass MSI DDR3 board that cost like 200 bucks, but it has problems in bios and its slightly damaged so probably not a good trade-in item.

GPU: r9 280x (I have two of these sort of, but one of them is older and has some problems connecting to a monitor sometimes)

Memory: 16gb corsair vengeance LPX (2x8gb)

Case: some cooler master box case that is NOT micro ATX

Power Supply: 1200w corsair (yes, it's overkill)

I AM MAINLY TRYING TO GO FOR A LOWER BUDGET SO I CAN SELL MY OLD PARTS AND GET NEW ONES THAT WILL WORK GREAT WITH MY NEW GPU.

Also My Power supply and storage are completely fine rn.

You might want to provide full specs on what you currently have, including case.  That will provide a starting point so we see how the changes will affect you.  The case is important for more than cosmetics as well, including cable management, airflow, etc.

Ok this is my opinion. I would see what you can get for the money. I mean do you have a budget or are you just getting stuff around that cost?

I'm trying to find a reasonable way to upgrade my pc so that my new 1070 won't bottle neck my cpu.

Also I didn't mean to say "budget" I'm trying to spend my cash on a new cpu, and sell the rest of my parts to upgrade to DDR4 (so I can have compatibility with my cpu)

What's your monitor set up?

The thing is my GPU is from 2013 and it's for mining not gaming, I have all gaming gear with a 144hz monitor and an extra 70 hz monitor, It can run games like csgo rocket league, and even destiny 2 or gta V fine, but I could really use and upgrade to get a solid 144hz minimum on certain games.

Is your display only 1080p 60hz?

Because for the cost of a 1070/ti you could get an RX 570/580 + 1080p 144hz display

Do you have a full budget for everything?

Yes My 1070 is arriving on Christmas.

I'm not trying to upgrade gear, only my pc specs, I'm just trying to figure out a way to work around scraping up more money to upgrade when I could just sell my parts and buy new ones.

Why not just take some of the 1070 money and downgrade it for an RX 570/580? Still perfectly fine for 1080p gaming

Thanks, I sort of avoided Ryzen (because of bad customer service in the past) But wow a 3.2ghz 6-core for 200 bucks, I am probably going to switch. Also I was thinking of using a brand that's not corsair for ram so that I don't spend too much money (but the ram you posted is the same price as corsair vengeance, but worse in specs). And I just edited it, but I am avoiding micro ATX so basically and good motherboard is already over 110 bucks, and lastly, I just wanted to say that I am going to make my original post more clear, but I want parts that are either black, white( only a hint) or blue so yeah.

why is kaby lake ur only option when u have to change mobo also, 6600k and 7700k is dead unless u have an existing motherboard.

The best budget solution right now for a 1070 is r5 1600 (250 for board+cpu, includes heatsink), or if u can scrape together enough money, a 8700 (non-k) with an asus board with MCE (probably 500 for board+cpu)

The best target setup with 1070+r5 1600 would be 1080p 60hz/120hz/144hz. or 1440p 60hz

Really wouldn't care about aesthetics until your budget is like $10,000 maybe.

There's Ryzen scaling, it's just about the best CPUs for the money, Coffee Lake usually costs more but will be a bit better for 144hz, say 100fps for Ryzen vs 120+fps for CL

And there's the best AM4 boards

Thank you guys so much, I am already editing my list of things, I am .noob when it comes to Ryzen or AMD so this is super helpful. Also one more question, will the r51600 work with a 1070 ti? or will the card bottle neck it, and if OC is the way to go, which is the cheapest motherboard that I can pickup by selling my previous parts.

The ASrock Pro 4 is likely the cheapest and bare minimum MOBO you want for Ryzen, will need a fan over the VRM for overclocking

CPUs bottleneck Refresh Rate

GPUs bottleneck Resolution/Quality settings

Just look up CPU benchmarks for whatever games you play, with a 1070 tier GPU there shouldn't be as big a gap between Ryzen/Coffee Lake than with a 1080ti

The video there specifically shows how Ryzen scales in games, your choice is between the R5 1400 and 1600, none of the X CPUs are worth it, probably just get the 1600

ryzen cpu isnt great above 80-90 fps, for motherboard i recommend the asus b350 prime, use the stock cooler, oc the cpu to 3.7ghz, gpu is up to u, if u are aiming for 120fps+ go with intel. a 1070 is enough for 1440p 60fps, 1080p 120hz, with amd u could also get a  freesync monitor. pretty good for a 250dollar cpu/mobo combo (im assuming the 1600 is 179 like over the holidays.
