I've always been slowly upgrading my system. I started out with a rig I bought from Best Buy with an AMD trinity CPU. Then moved up to an fx-8350 with a 750-ti. Then upgraded to a 960. Next I grabbed an i7-6700k, and a M.2 SSD.

My current system is this:

CPU: i7-6700k

GPU: 1080 FE

PSU: 750 watt (bronze)

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3

SSD: 256gb M.2 (OS and games)

HDD1: 1tb for general storage and some games

HDD2: 600gb for rest of games

RAM: 8gb Ripjaws (2400)

CASE: Cooler Master HAF X

MONITOR: 1080p dell

I was thinking about these upgrades

CPU: i7-8700k

GPU: 1080 ti

MOBO: ASRock - Fatal1ty Z370

SSD: another 1 or 2 M.2

CASE: Smaller case for desktop real estate

I was wondering what I should upgrade first. I have $200 right now, and I will be payed in another week, so my full budget will be around $350 plus the money I get from selling the item I am upgrading.

In order

1. SSD first

2. RAM- in this high end of a build you would want more than 8gb.

2. If you play more games then grab the 1080ti, need to do more productivity then the i7 8700k.

You might not want to upgrade your current CPU because that is still a pretty good CPU unless you want newer/more cores.

3. MOBO- If you decide to get the 8700k then you need a Z370.

4. Case

If at first you don't succeed...

Call it version 1.0

Spoiler

Main Rig

CPU: Intel i5 6600k

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED

MOBO: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8gb (2x4gb)

GPU:

Storage: Seagate 500GB

Case: NZXT S340 Elite

Personally, I would go with the CPU but i dont think its necessary honestly. And the GPU upgraded is not needed at all. You would only see about a 10% difference on paper. @TheGlenlivet is right, the upgrades are too close to the original i would wait a few more months or a year or 2.

Specs:

 Gaming PC: i5 3570, 16GB 1600MHz, GTX 780 3GB, Transcend 128GB, WD 500GB, Seagate 500GB, Thermaltake 600W Smart, S340 w/ RGB, Windows 10 Pro

 Server: Xeon E5 2650, 12GB 1600MHz ECC, 8400GS, WD 2TB + 1TB + 1TB, EVGA 500B 500W, Windows 10 Pro

 Laptop: Macbook Pro Retina 2013, i7 4558U, 8GB 1600MHz, Intel Iris Pro 1.5GB, Apple 256GB NVME, Mojave

 Internet: $70/month For 500/100, Actually get 525/102

Monitor?  8 more GB of RAM?  Your system is pretty stout as it is.

If you go 8700K you need a new mobo too, unless these rumors about z170 being modified to work with 8th gen turn out to be true.

The RAM upgrade would also be a decent thing to upgrade :)

id say 8GB ram and videocard. wait for the next gen cpus since the 6700K is still very capable

EDIT: just noticed the monitor is only 1080p which is a real waste if you ask me. I recommend upgrading to at least 1440p

Monitor because all that hardware is going to waste

I know it like 30 dollars out side your price range but it is 1440p and 165hz
