Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a CPU that I should go with.  also if you pls recommend an aio cooler to go with because I'm planning to overclock the CPU and the CPU could be overkill I don't as long as is in my budget thank you.

Budget: $100-$500

You need to provide us with your current system specifications. It's hard to make recommendations without knowing details.

As well....what will you be using the system for???

Not 100% guaranteed, but there is a good chance.

How savvy are you at overclocking?

Maybe, depends on your luck with the silicon lottery.

maybe with delid

a 5ghz oc is realistic with that cooler...however...you need to consider other limitations...aka...your psu and your motherboard...what speed you are running your RAM at etc...When pushing high overclocks...it is much more than just increasing the Multi and vcore.

Again...more details on total system would generate more solid advice :)

delid if it cant ?

How much do you know about delidding? I ask because it's a fair question to pose to someone who's thinking about buying an 8700K and promptly ending its warranty and potentially killing it.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I would highly recommend you scrounge up some old Celerons and practice repeatedly before attempting it on an 8700K.

http://www.overclock.net/f/

I have found this website to be a valuable resource whenever I embark on an Overclock. There are several guides on multiple platforms and specific cpus...as well as knowledgeable ppl. You can find things on delidding and overclocking there

if you have a target of 5ghz in mind, then it's better BUYING a binned and delidded chip from SL with a 115i as a cooler, but that'd mean 8700k is off the table for now

unless u really wanna learn how to delidd, i'd practice on an old cpu first

Ryzen 7 is always an option. I believe the entry level Threadripper CPU is $500 if you want to be obscene about it. The 8600K is also possible.

Alternatively, if you swing down to the $100 end, you could strap a Ryzen 3 1200 to a B350 board and let it fly. The sweet spot would be a Ryzen 5 1600 on a B350 board with 3000MHz RAM. The range you've given lets you choose from damn near every consumer-grade CPU on the market.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

k but you see the single thread performance is not that good on ryzen than intel.
