New PC won't display to monitor

Just finished my new build. Turned it on, the fans spin, but the monitor stays in power saving mode when plugged into the gpu or mobo. Help please. 

 

specs:

CPU: AMD R3 1300x

GPU: EVGA GTX 1050ti

MOBO: MSI B350M Gaming Pro

HDD: WD Blue 7200 RPM 1TB

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR42400MHz

Power supply: EVGA 500 80+ white

Case: Corsair Carbide spec-04

Can you try on any other monitor? A different output from the graphics card perhaps??

I have an older non-hdmi monitor that I can try. I can also try to plug it into the mobo

Ok, so I can't use the older monitor and the mobo hdmi did nothing...

try a different output on the video card, and plug it into a TV

The video card only has one HDMI port, but I'll go try the tv thing.
