got a gsync monitor, 1440p + 165hz refresh rate

with uncapped FPS in league, the FPS goes into the 600's (causing screen tearing) which shouldn't happen because fps should be capped at 165.. meaning gsync isn't working.

It's enabled in NVidia control panel and it's set to windowed and fullscreen but doesn't work on either setting.

Fix?

Don't you need to enable vsync and gsync?  I thought that gsync just made sure your fps = hz when under the max refresh rate of your screen, but wasn't inherently a cap on fps.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

afaik, g-sync only initializes when in its range. I own a g-sync panel currently, and I've never noticed screen tearing, but I rarely play games that go past 144hz anyway.

You dont want to enable V-Sync because evreytime you hit the cap you get input lag. In-game FPS limiter is the best way to go and if not available then Riva Tuner Statistic Server... NVIDIA Inspector causes the same input lag as V-Sync with FPS limiter.

I've had bad experiences with in-game limiters in the past.  If I lock a game to 60 with vsync it's totally smooth but if I set an in-game limiter to 60, it holds it right around there give or take, but it's not perfect and causes stutter and tearing

Well, that doesent happen if you have G-Sync.

In theory, that's true I suppose, but I still question the methods by which it limits the fps...

Thats why I suggested to lock it at 162-163FPS as there is some small room for error.

For example CS:GO likes to go wild and the FPS goes +-7 for me so I have to set the limit to 155FPS.

Rocket League, Overwatch is rock solid and caps at whatever I set it to.

I guess it doesn't hurt to try it and see what it's like.  That's definitely what I would do... wish I could actually lol

I know LoL has a weird way of limiting fps.

As I'm aware LoL only has 144fps, 120fps, 80fps, 60fps, 30fps, 25fps options and reading through league forums this is the only two options I found:

Mind you this is from 2013...

The first way I'm hoping that Riot changed the option from 2013 so you can type in the fps because you will see that 5 stands for 60fps ect. but I'm interested will it still be single digit numbers or the real fps number.

Spoiler

Navigate to \Riot Games\League of Legends\Config

In there you will see a file called game/game.cfg, right click it and open it up with notepad, find the following line

FrameCapType = "something"

insert a 4 there for 30 FPS, 5 is 60 and 6 is uncapped as much as I know.

Spoiler

--STEP 1
Download the recent version of MSI After Burner (2.3.1 released: 2013/1/23)
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

--STEP 2
Install MSI Afterburner, read the end user agreement. If you do not agree, than do not install. MSI is not responsible for any negative effects on your computer.

--STEP 3
Start MSI Afterburner and go into the settings menu.

--STEP 4
Go into the "Monitoring" tab and select "Framerate" in the active hardware monitoring section. Check the tick box to enable "Show in On Screen Display."
(You can also monitor other values, I like GPU temperature and load to be displayed.)

--STEP 5
Go into the "On-Screen Display" tab and select what shortcut you would like for "Toggle On-Screen Display"

--STEP 6
Exit the settings menu by selecting "OK" on the bottom part of the form.

--STEP 7
Open the new "MSI On-Screen Display Server" icon in your system tray.

--STEP 8
Click on the wrench on the upper right for server properties and change your frame limit.

As someone who has a G-Sync monitor I read on the Geforce forums that V-sync must be forced on in the NV control panel, although, V-sync must be turned off in game and it seems to work fine for me.

Also my G-sync won't work on the "Windowed and Fullscreen", not sure if that could be part the problem though?

There is also an option under the display tab in the NV control panel to enable a G-Sync indicator which may help with troubleshooting.
