Sanity Check: Mixing Trident Z non-RGB with Trident Z RGB

I'm pretty sure this would not be an issue, but just wanting to double-check with the LTT community to make sure what I am thinking is sane...

 

Basically, I currently have a 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) kit of G.Skill Trident Z, DDR4-3000 with 14-14-14-34 timings, 1.35V.

I bought the kit back in December 2016, when putting together my X99 system.

This was BEFORE the RGB craze.

2017 rolls along, and G.Skill decides to discontinue the kit, and re-introduce it with RGB...and pull the MSRP price up (because why not?).

So now the kit as "ascended" to this form: https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c14d-16gtzr

(Notice the model number is the exact same, but with the "R" at the end? kek)

 

My plan to grab a set of the 16 GB RGB kit, and slot it together with my existing 16 GB non-RGB set, for a total of 32 GB.

My X99 Deluxe II has ASUS Aura support, so it would be a nice touch.

Wow, 5 replies and not one of them in any way useful to the OP.

 

@-rascal- if the new kit runs at the same timings and the same voltage, you should have no problem running them together. I looked on the g.skill site at both kits and they seem like their main timings are identical, so I'd say you should be fine.

 

I've never tried this - my system was built in late 2015 so I managed to avoid RGB - but other than some extra commands that RGB kits support, they are still, functionally, standard DDR4 modules.
