Question regarding Intel ME flaw

Just finished watching the latest WAN show and heard the news on Intel's ME flaw.  My PC was flawed but its patched now.

 

My question now, when formatting, must I do this step everytime afterwards or just this one time?

It's a BIOS-fix, not OS-fix. Formatting your drives don't format your BIOS.

Was confusing, usually I use a usb drive to put on new BIOS.

Wait a second, I thought Intel hadn’t even released a fix yet!

I updated the BIOS a long time ago on my Optiplex for ME. It was not so much a flaw as it was remote access for maintenance. Unfortunately it was found out by the public and became a dangerous back door for hackers.

 

AFAIK only corporate machines like optiplex's had this issue.

This is a new issue apart from the one you linked. That has to do with SPS. The one you linked states:

 

" This vulnerability does not exist on Intel-based consumer PCs with consumer firmware, Intel servers utilizing Intel® Server Platform Services (Intel® SPS), or Intel® Xeon® Processor E3 and Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 workstations utilizing Intel® SPS firmware.”

Where this issue is to do with ME and TXT and once again SPS And this one does effect consumer PCs with consumer firmware.  

CPU effected this time are:
 

• 6th, 7th and 8th Generation Intel Core processors
• Intel Xeon E3-1200 v5 and v6 processors
• Intel Xeon Scalable processors
• Intel Xeon W processors
• Intel Atom C3000 processors
• Apollo Lake Intel Atom E3900 series
• Apollo Lake Intel Pentiums
• Celeron N and J series processors

  As of yet there are no fixes.

In my case it was fixed by simply updaing chipset drivers on Windows 10.

After that tool didn't find my PC to be at risk anymore.
