ive been trying a few times to put together a good pc on pcpartpicker. im a first year university student in canada, and dont have a ton of money to put towards a new pc... but binge watching ltt really makes me wanna build a better pc than the prebuilt i bought almost 3 years ago haha. im not expecting to do heavy work on the pc, just looking for decent performance when i decide to do some light gaming. my budget is $1.5k CAD, but i would appreciate it if it was decently under my budget. im not actually 100% on buying it very soon, but i believe in the near future id like to upgrade and hand my current PC to my siblings for them to use.

this is the one i have right now,

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/QpPLtJ

but i also had these two from past attempts:

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/KhHLtJ

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/m9ZjtJ

i can get an os easily and already have satisfactory peripherals, but im looking to get a 144hz monitor to replace my somewhat dated monitor. i would consider using the old monitor as a second display, but im afraid theres not enough room on my desk currently to do that. i also dont have a wired connection, so i chose a wireless adapter to use.

im feeling pretty solid with the ryzen cpu, and decided that i can just roll with an ssd thats at least 250GB, but everything else im pretty unsure of.

for cases, im not looking to be too over the top. the tower will be placed on the floor, so having usb ports that are near the top would benefit me. im probably not going to be reusing any old parts, but im wondering if i can transfer the wireless adapter that came with it to the new build. how can i find out what model it is and if it will be compatible? im probably not going to overclock, and really only need a low end graphics card to my knowledge.

thanks in advance!

What will you do with the PC?

Don't get the 1500X, get the 1600 and overclock it. It's really simple.

The motherboard is crap. The Pro4 or Prime Plus should cost about the same.

The B3 is a fire hazard. The Corsair CX450/M is a decent budget unit, but you may want to get a nicer PSU, so you can reuse the PSU in any future builds

:)

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

My personal advice would be not to go with a Gigabyte AMD board. I'd choose ASUS or AsRock if possible

Other than that, also would recommend getting a 1600 and overclocking it, especially if you want to go at blender or stream (the extra cores and threads will come in handy and you can get about as much speed with a light overclock and the stock cooler)

okay thank you! is overclocking done through the bios?

and thank you for the part list! do i really need that graphics card for my build's purpose? or could i have used the 1050 Ti i picked out?

EDIT: rephrasing, is there a reason why that card was chosen rather than the 1050 Ti?

the 1060 6gb performs much better than the 1050ti if you plan to play any more intensive games in the future, but for now the 1050ti is fine with what you play.

I would say that if you want to do 144hz, you would be best off with a freesync monitor and a decent amd gpu. If you are below 144hz at all times, you will pretty much only see 77hz, which is barely an upgrade over 60hz. not to mention that 1050ti would probably struggle to get anywhere close to 144fps even in very light games. I would go with something like an rx 580 (which will run you about $100 more) and freesync monitor, that way, if you are getting 100 fps at most time, you will see 100fps. the second reason is that once you pass 100fps, you are entering into cpu bottleneck territory. even if your gpu was fast enough, a ryzen chip doesn't have enough clock speed to keep it past 144fps. but getting a freesync monitor also solves that issue. some people might not agree with me, but it make sense.. although amd cards are a little off pricing, they are getting pretty close back to where they where, and in a short time from now, this will be a tangible option. also get rid of that 1500x, either buy a 1400 or a 1600. that's where the sweet spot is.

oh alright thank you very much~ should the 580 be the 4GB version or the 8GB one? and would overclocking the 1600 reduce bottlenecking at all?

get the 8gb one if possible, and there shouldn't be any bottlenecks with the 1600.
