Which AM4 motherboard is better for overclocking, B350 or X370?

Chipset has nothing to do with overclocking aside from A320 locking it

there's plenty of X370 boards that are bad, especially for the money, most of the B350 boards aren't that good

Basically everything between the $75 ASrock Pro4 and $160 ish ASUS Prime Pro kinda sucks. IMO it's either go big or go home for AM4 VRMs, and most will need a fan on them if you do overclocking.

Here's a list of some of the am4 boards, sorted by quality.

Most likely you will want a X370 board, and probably either a premium air cooler or an AIO. Most 240mm AIO and bigger will get you to about 4gh, sometimes a little more if you're lucky.

Buildzoid made a 2-hour rambling video some time back where he readily admits he was underestimating what some of the VRMs on the B350 boards could do. This is because most people don't use their computers to run synthetic benchmarks like prime95 all day so a good 4 phase design is okay.

On my ASrock board it takes 1.425V with a fan on the VRM to do 3950mhz in firestrike, without a fan on the VRM it won't clock that high, and my voltage is probably all over the place, it also lacks LLC.

Well how expensive is it to add a fan like $5?

That's besides the point. We shouldn't have this issue, should have a $99 board with a 6 phase VRM and a proper heatsink and LLC, that would be perfect.

For best OC of 6 cores and higher you want midrange mobo, in my signature. Seems like people are ordinarily stealing my lists lol

Would this be good? The company isn't on the list.

Lol. Your lists? Thats cute. If you are referring to providing a link to a list of motherboards, I can promise you I didnt "steal" that list from you, I sourced it from the original creator of the content over on OCN.

The AM4 mobo list is my own, i made it. AlphaC made the Intel one.

You may want to air your grievances with the OCN crowd then, if you have them, bc that list is being passed around like a $2 ho.
