I have 2 Hard Drives. 1 is 5900 RPM + 16MB Cache the other is 5400 RPM + 256MB Cache.

Which would be faster as the non-primary storage? Used to store everything, from junk to games that aren't be played primarily.

I also use this drive for photoshop and storing unity game assets while the main unity program is on my SSD. So it will be accessing it from the hard drive since assets take up a lot of space.

I doubt RPM really matters much in terms of speed on top of that its only 500rpm much faster..i'd say the 5400 one will perform much better.

They are both 8 TB which is why it as important for me to ask since its not just a 500GB drive that fills up. Ill be using this for a while. 500 RPM is still almost 10% faster and I don't know if the extra cache beats the extra RPM or not. Since this isn't something that I know much about. Just that cache stores frequently used stuff. But that doesn't help if I'm constantly transferring stuff like constantly saving over edits of a unity project then later opening it back up.

id probably run a RAID if you have enough data to justefy a 8TB drive

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What am I losing if I run raid between 2 different hard drives. I know that it will match the lowest capacity. Since they are both 8TB it doesn't matter. However, does cache and RPM also lower to the lowest? So I'd be getting 5400RPM + 16MB Cache in raid?

oh so you have the two drives already? well if you have both id run the 256mb cash drive. i was thinking you run something like a RAID 5 with three 4TB drives, or something like that

I thought that cache was used so that files could be sent over to the drive super quickly, and then gets written to the disk, so I would go for the 5400rpm 256MB cache drive.
