I'm thinking of building a pc and I've never built my own so far but i need a new computer and I was told building one is allot cheaper so i'm giving it a shot.

My budget is around 1000$, and i'm going to be using my pc for a lot of video editing, and also gaming. I'm not looking to game at the highest settings, but I want to be able to play games at decent fps and graphics.

I've come up with this so far:

Thoughts?

If you're video editing as well as gaming pick up a new 8400/8600k(if budget allows it) or go for a ryzen 5 1600 system.

PC - CPU Ryzen 5 1600 - GPU Power Color Radeon 5700XT- Motherboard Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming - RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB - Storage 525GB Crucial MX300 SSD + 120GB Kingston SSD   PSU Corsair CX750M - Cooling Stock - Case White NZXT S340

Peripherals - Mouse Logitech G502 Wireless - Keyboard Logitech G915 TKL  Headset Razer Kraken Pro V2's - Displays 2x Acer 24" GF246(1080p, 75hz, Freesync) Steering Wheel & Pedals Logitech G29 & Shifter

The 8th gen i5s come with 6 cores rather than 4 like the older generations, for editing core count can help to an extent.

The ryzen 5 1600s are 6 core/12 thread, so will be good for multitasking if you wanted to game and render a video at the same time etc.

Video editing can make use of CPU cores, the more the better.

I'd also say look for a good 4TB or higher external drive and set up Windows backup.

CPU: Core i7 4970K | MOBO: Asus Z87 Pro | RAM: 32GBs of G.Skill Ares 1866 | GPU: MSI GAMING X GTX 1070 | STOR: 2 X Crucial BX100 250GB, 2 x WD Blk 1TB (mirror),WD Blk 500GB | CASE: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced | PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA G2 750W | COOL: Cooler Master Hyper T4 | DISP: 21" 1080P POS | KB: MS Keyboard | MAU5: Redragon NEMEANLION | MIC: Snowball Blue | OS: Win 8.1 Pro x64, (Working on Arch for dual boot) |

Don't get the 6600K. For Adobe CC and gaming, get the 8400 or 8600K.

Stock cooler is fine for the 8400, you'll want a better one for the 8600K.

Sure you don't want an SSD?

The PSU is crap, get a decent one instead.

You should thank @RKRiley. His/Her post was more detailed than mine.

If you're in a tighter budget Ryzen will definitely be the best option over an 8th gen i5. At the moment they only have Z370 boards available and the cheapest is around 110 USD, where as ryzen you can get b350 boards which allow overclocking for around 70USD.

Im aware you're using CAD I'm just not sure on the prices in CAD haha.

An SSD would be highly preferred though; consider getting a 1060 3gb instead and an ssd.

Also you could go the r5 1600 route to save money and make room for an ssd.

Not actually true.

Photoshop for example is very single threaded.

Certain parts of premier (warp stabilize for example) are very single threaded.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

If you're willing to go used the i7-4790 is still a beast and can be found in lots of older OEM systems for cheap, then you just need a new GPU.  Otherwise I'd recommend the i5-8400 or Ryzen 1600
