Can you run a phone from mains?

Hi, I found an old phone knocking around and out of curiosity wanted to power it on again. Only problem is, the battery swelled to 2X/3X its size and had to be thrown out. Can it be powered by just wall power, no battery?

Hell no. 

 

Batteries are DC power. The mains are AC. 

 

With that in mind, if you could find a DC power supply that supplies the correct voltage and amperage, then sure, that would probably work, if you wired it up properly.
