8700 non k overheating

I bought a cryorig h7 to go with my 8700 non k, but it isn't even close to acceptable temps. With out of the box settings on an Asus prime Z370 A it reaches 100 degrees within 3 seconds of starting prime 95 small fft. I don't know  what to do. I reseat ed the cooler twice, I tried the intel stock cooler, nothing's working. I noticed that vcore is automatically going up to 1. 424 on HWMonitor. I want tokwer it but I can't find the option in the bios. Any ideas?

Take off heatsink, wash with 70% alcohol , re apply thermal paste, reseat heatsink make sure all 4 points pressure

I did that twice :( I used 99 percent becausr that's what Linus recommends. That shouldn't make a difference though right?

90-100 instantly is almost always no thermal paste / heatsink not well seated

Yeah it's fine,

 

I don't know ask for someone's in real life help who could confirm with you it's well seated etc.. you know only 1 point of pressure not 100% correctly seated can result in 100c instant

 

If not, then IDK what it could be,

Yeah I did. Could it be the cooler is overloaded by the 1.45 volts the 8700 is getting to? I don't know...

SOrry that was an old account. Yeah I Did. I ended up capping vcore to 1.25V and capped the clockspeed to 4.3 across all cores. It still goes above 90 in prime 95 small FFT, but it isn't instant and in cinebench after running it 10 times it didn't go above 80 on any cores so I think I'll call that a mild success. I'm only gaming anyways, so I doubt consistant 80 degrees while gaming will hurt the thing.

1,42V is really high for Intel CPUs. There should be an option in the BIOS

YEah I found it. Capped it to 1.25 volts. It still overheats pretty bad under small FFT load, but cinebench on repeat doesn't go above 80 after 10 cycles. I'm only gaming so I'll call that a success. Too tired to keep worrying about it for today. Maybe in a few weeks I"ll get an NH D15 or something to help combat these temps but for now they're fine.

I would say that 1.45v is high even for liquid cooling due to the temps that it can produce. I suspect it is that, that is causing your temperature issues.

 

Also correct me if I'm wrong but that chip is only supposed to turbo up to 4.6 GHz on 2 cores. I know the ASUS boards have MCE (Multi core enhancement) enabled as a default which turbos all cores and needs more voltage and raises temps. So effectively you are running 4 out of the 6 cores at an overclock. Try turning off MCE in the bios it may help with temps.

 

I am just forwarding stuff I have read, there are various forum posts that are claiming that there is something wrong with the z370 asus voltage control and has been frying chips at 1.7v so it may be worth reading up on the symptoms of that.

YEah I actively didn't select MCE. I guess they were doing it anyways. I couldn't get it to stop, so I"m just running a 4.3ghz cap on all cores instead. I can take the 300mhz hit in 1-2 core applications if it means the chip doesn't die in a year from heat. I also capped the voltage to 1.25, and it seems to be listening. Those two combined is keeping temps higher than I'd like, but within what I think are safe limits as long as I'm not running Prime95 small FFT. I'll keep an eye on it though. WOrst case scenario I wasted $40 on the H7 and I have to spend $100 for an NH D15. Not the end of the world.
