1440p vs 4K

syztumGG

Hello forum :3 I'm primarily a content creator though I like to do some light gaming on the side (Rocket League being the most demanding so very light) and my computer can run everything in 4K. I'm just worried about scaling because I really can't stand Windows scaling and it just makes everything janky and awkward. I'd much rather sacrifice the resolution in order to have things always at the correct scaling. I don't have the *best* eyesight but I can use a 27" 4K panel at 125% scaling. Should I just get a 27" 1440p panel and run it at 100% or consider spending more on a 32" 4K panel. Would it even be visible at 100%? I've done a lot of research with Google and YouTube but everyone is just comparing 1440p at 144Hz vs 4K at 60Hz and I honestly don't care at all. A 60Hz panel is perfectly fine (I'm no pro gamer. Just for fun) and the price differences don't matter to me. I'd rather get a great monitor for a higher price than be stuck disappointed with an extra bill in my pocket.

Thanks for any help <3

1440p 144Hz gets my vote. Looks almost the same at any range up to 34" and gives way more fps.

32" 4K is about the same pixel density as a 16" 1080p screen, so you can go to a store and find a laptop with a 15.6" 1080p screen and get a feel for how large elements will be.

4k = More detail, costs more, performs slower (60Hz)

1440p 144Hz = Faster gamplay, still perfect detail

IMO go for the 1440p (or even 2 of them).

Thanks :D I was going to be near a Best Buy today anyways. What size laptop would I have to find to simulate a 27" 1440p screen?

I've had a decent IPS 4k panel by LG. I currently use a 1440p 144hz G sync IPS display and could NOT be any happier. In my opinion, at least for gaming, 1440p is sharp enough while still offering the benefits of high refresh rates. Once you use a high refresh rate panel, its very hard to go back.

I have an Acer predator monitor (2560x1440 @165Gz) and it's amazing. I think that's all you realistically need until OLED becomes more available and affordable.

I have yet to mess with a 4K monitor myself, but I do have a 1440P 27" 60Hz monitor (I can bump it to 120Hz if I feel like it).  By my experience with monitor, it fine with leaving Windows at 100%.  And like others stated, that resolution will be far easier to drive on the occasions you do game.

I have a Ryzen 7 1700x and a GTX 1060 6GB // it runs basically everything I need no problem. What type of display? I travel to San Diego every once in a while anyway.

Standard 1440p 60hz Korean Montior, DVI as the only input, It has no defects as far as I can tell. Actually looking to get a 4k 60hz display potentially....

In any event if you want the bit of extra screen space, but want better scaling you gotta go for a 1440p ultra wide, or 1440p 144hz IPS, this one is free-sync would work fine with your 1060 but naturally you won't run AAA games at ultra settings, I'm also considering selling my Vega 56 card...

4K is definitely a superior resolution but it's not worth:

  • A 60 Hz limit
  • Halved frame rates in most games
  • Buying a $750 video card
